Study and analysis of the rural area of Cantabria

Commissioned by the Banco Santander Foundation, and between October 2023 and March 2024, Interfaz, together with Alejandro Alonso, conducted a study on the cultural and rural ecosystem in Cantabria. The objective: to lay the groundwork for a situated cultural intervention, based on existing resources and the agents already working in the region.

The study analyzes the context, identifies priority areas (such as municipalities at risk of depopulation) and proposes lines of work that combine institutional support, support for local agents and the construction of new rural imaginaries.

The work is based on territorial analysis, interviews, field visits, and a review of relevant experiences. It includes a map of active initiatives by region and type, profiles of stakeholders, key themes, and recommendations for a future support program from the Foundation, based on criteria of sustainability, local roots, and community engagement. The study also includes a series of recommendations for a potential support program from the Banco Santander Foundation, aligned with the launch of its new cultural center, Faro Santander.
